A State of Art

Pulsating works of art of six accomplished artists will be the focus of
an exhibition – A State of Art – that will be hosted at “Ir-Razzett
tal-Markiz Mallia Tabone, Triq Wied il-Ghasel, Mosta”. It will be held from the 3rd to the 17th of February 2007. The exhibition will be open from Monday to Sunday from 6.30 pm till 9.30 pm.

‘A State Of Art’ invites the spirit of these six artists to interact in a riot of expression, colour and movement to meld into a state of art’ says Andrew Sciberras, the leading organizer.

We encountered the six artists and obtained random reactions re their inspiration or works.

‘Art is the _expression of an understanding soul’ says Sara Pace who sees in art the creation of what a human being perceives to be subconscious reality: the subconscious is allowed to speak out. Her works areinspired by creation and nature as she gives utmost importance tomovement in her works.

Giovanni Farrugia feels that art is his second nature which is alive and vibrant. It therefore follows that human and animal nature and their environment inspires his artistic _expression. His medium consists of man-made material such as iron and steel and steers clear of natural mediums such as wood or stone.

Glenville Galea’s works in oil absorb the spiritual detail of Maltese expression including folklore, landscape, ancient sites, core villages and portraits.

Galea’s_expressions complement the rebellious soul of Henry Falzon who seeshis artistic _expression drifting like a raft on a river, always moving on, occasionally getting stuck to a rock, navigating a rapid or exploring an idle pool. He sees his current works as being an evolution from his earlier designs and photography.

Like Sara Pace, Stefan De Battista sees art emerging from feelings and emotions that are liberated through art. ‘We are what we create’, saysStefan as his works revel in curves, bright colours and contrasting tones inspired from organic forms.

Intense spirituality permeates through Norman Lowell’s vision of art. ‘At the very beginning Man had an inborn Spirituality. He was attuned to the Great Cosmos. Hesimply ‘knew’. This knowledge was sublimated into art. Lascauxcaves, Paleolithic sculptures and paintings prove that Art came ahead of politics and society. Culture became scattered, fractured through the Nation State. We have to re-discover our spirituality and finally our freedom’, Mr. Lowell concludes.

‘A State Of Art ’ promises to be an energetic spiritual interaction that delivers visual challenges and delights to each individual soul that seeks to immerse into her voice.
